Frequently Asked Questions

General:

What is .netWire?
.netWire is a news service for Microsoft.NET related information, services and products.

How do you get your news?
We do not actively scout for news ourselves. Our main source of news is the originators of the news themselves. We have two main categories of news sources: members, who regularly feed news into our system and other sources, who feed news but on an occasional basis.

So, anyone can submit news?
Yes, anyone can submit news as long as it is relevant to Microsoft.NET and related topics.

What's in it for me?
Think of .netWire as your PR service. If you have a company that has come up with a .NET related product, what better way to tell about it to the world than post it on .netWire, for free!

How old can the news I am submitting be?
We accept only those news items that are at the maximum a month old. Any news older than that is simply rejected. If you'd like to post older news items (especially articles, books or such reference material), you can still submit them but we can not guarantee they will not be rejected.

Do you screen the news items passing through your system?
Yes, we screen every news item passing through our system to validate the information and to reject any misleading information or any type of spamming. We make every effort to make sure the news is accurate. We visit the links to make sure they exist and that they reflect what has been mentioned in the news item. After all, free service does not mean bad service!

In what order are the news items displayed?
Purely in the order they were received. For a given date, the news item posted earlier will be displayed before the one posted later.

How long does news on the main page stay?
We try to maintain the news that you have submitted for at least 3 days. Simply because, if someone hasn't visited our site for some time, he or she should not miss out of the main news. However, if there has been no news for some days, we keep the "old news" until the new items come in.

What about the old news? How can I access it?
Relax! We archive all the news we remove from our main page. We also categorize the news and hence you can search the archives on a category basis. Consider, for example, you wanted some old news on books. You can go to our archives and list only those items related to books.

When do you archive the old news?
Currently, we automatically archive any news item older than 3 days. However, some archived news might still be on the main page for the reference of users. This is especially useful "monday readers" who still might be interested in what happened at the end of the previous week.

Why is that I can see only 200 items in the "Entire archive" category? Are the other archived news items deleted?!
No, we do not delete any of the news item that we have approved. Although we list only a maximum of 200 news items in our archives (100, in the case of individual categories), we will soon provide a way of searching older news items. Since we are a news wire service, old news does not interest us or our audience.

Copyrights:

Who holds the copyrights to the articles, books, etc. mentioned on .netWire?
The respective owners do. .netWire does not have copyrights to any infomation at the location to which the news item points. Only the news item that you submit becomes our property (for promotional purposes) and not the resource that is mentioned in the news item.

Membership:

What is a .netWire member?
A .netWire member is either an individual or a company that posts .NET related news on a regular basis.

Is there a fee to join?
.netWire membership is free.

What are the advantages to becoming a .netWire member?
Please refer to our membership details.

Do news items posted by members displayed above those posted by non-members?
No, all news items have same priority. The items are posted in the order they were received.

Do you pre-screen membership applications?
Yes, we do this to ensure only reliable sources of information can take advantage of our membership.

What do I do if my membership application is rejected? Can I not post on .netWire at all?
No, a rejection of your membership application could mean that we have determined your profile does not fit what we are looking for in a member.

How frequently can I apply for a membership?
You can apply whenever you need. However, we suggest that you wait for at least a month or two before re-applying if your application has been rejected.

Can you terminate someone's membership status?
Yes, at our discretion, we could terminate membership status. One of the reasons could be that the member did not follow the member rules of conduct.
